Parkland Laboratories was founded in 1998 by Dr. Walter Pitz, a cereal chemist with a farm background and over 30 years experience in grain testing, grain processing, R&D, and teaching in government, industry and university environments. The lab operated in Red Deer, AB from its inception in 1998 to August 2014 when it moved to Chilliwack, BC. A branch lab, operated by Mel Pitz, was set up in Melville, SK in 2005. Mel has an extensive background in analytical chemistry with career experience at the Canadian Grain Commission, Environment Canada and in the pulp and paper industry.

Parkland labs are accredited through the Canadian Food and Drug Inspection Agency (CFIA) and the Canadian Seed Institute (CSI) to conduct purity and germination testing on the major crop kinds grown commercially in western Canada. The Melville lab is an Authorized Seed Crop Inspection Service (ASCIS) and conducts Canadian Seed Growers Association (CSGA) pedigreed field crop inspections on cereal and pulse crops in SK. Mel is also a CSI auditor for Approved Conditioners (AC) and Bulk Storage Facilities (RSE ) and AWSA seed treatment facilities, a CSI auditor for CFIA accredited seed testing laboratories in Canada, and an accredited trainer and auditor in ISO Quality Management Systems.
